Pop Bottle Whirligig

Watch it whirl.
We visited an artist named Vollis Simpson and found this whirligig in his shop. His was made from old beer cans, we made ours out of plastic pop bottles. Fourth graders at Museum Magnet School made them with us.

When was the first whirligig invented? What other things can you make out of pop bottles? How many moving bottles can you add to your whirligig?
